00Jawline rating
Jawline rating: how defined is your jawline?
Take or upload one front-facing selfie. The jawline rating traces your jaw from ear to chin, measures the angle at each jaw corner and how wide your jaw sits against your cheekbones, and gives you a jawline score out of 100. Your photo stays in your browser.

01What the jawline rating measures
Four readings, each worth a fixed share of the score. Every one is drawn on your photo, so you can see where it comes from.
- Jaw angle45% of the score
- The angle at each jaw corner, between the line up to your cheekbone and the line down to your chin. A lower angle is a sharper corner.
- Jaw width30% of the score
- Your jaw width at the corners against your width at the cheekbones. A higher share is a wider, squarer jaw.
- Jaw balance15% of the score
- How evenly your two jaw corners and lower jaw line sit either side of your face's midline.
- Lower third10% of the score
- Nose base to chin as a share of your face length: how much of your face the lower third takes up.

02How the jawline score is worked out
Jaw angle counts for 45% of the score, jaw width for 30%, jaw balance for 15% and the lower third for 10%. Each reading becomes a score out of 100 against our reference faces: a jaw angle of 126.6° or less scores 85 or more, about 131.5° scores 65, and 137.6° or more scores 40 or less; a jaw width of 82.3% of cheekbone width scores 85, 79.4% scores 65 and 77.0% scores 40. Jaw balance uses the jaw score from the facial symmetry test, and the lower third loses 8 points for each percentage point it sits away from 41% of face length.
03Jaw angle in a photo is not a bone angle
The jawline rating measures the angle your jaw makes in a front-facing photo, between three points on its outline. Doctors measure the gonial angle of the jawbone from the side, on an X-ray, and get smaller numbers. The two are related but not the same, so compare your angle only with other front-facing photos.
04How to take the photo
- 01Face the camera straight on, with the phone at eye level. Tilting your chin up or down changes both jaw angles.
- 02Keep your mouth closed and your face relaxed: clenching or smiling moves the jaw line.
- 03Use light from the front. A shadow under the jaw hides where its edge is.
- 04Pull hair back from your jaw and ears; a beard can hide the jaw's real edge.
- 05Hold the phone at arm's length. Very close photos make the jaw look narrower.
05How the jawline rating works, and its limits
Your browser finds 478 points on your face and measures between the ones on your jaw outline, cheekbones, nose and chin. The jawline score is this site's own reference score for how angular and wide a jaw reads in a photo, not a judgement of your looks: plenty of faces people find attractive have a softer, narrower jaw. Lighting, a beard and your expression all move the readings, so retake the photo if one looks wrong. Left and right are as seen in the photo.
06Jawline rating questions
01How do I rate my jawline?
Take one straight-on selfie with your mouth closed, your face relaxed and your hair off your jaw. The jawline rating traces your jaw, measures both jaw angles, your jaw width, its left–right balance and your lower third, and combines them into a score out of 100.
02What is a good jawline score?
There is no pass mark. Half of our reference faces score below 70 and one in five above 78. Your result also says what share of the reference faces you score higher than, and which of the four readings helps or holds back your score the most.
03What is a good jaw angle?
In front-facing photos, most of our reference faces have a jaw angle between 129° and 136°. A lower angle reads as a sharper, more angular jaw corner. It is measured in the photo, so it is not the same number as a gonial angle measured on an X-ray.
04Can I improve my jawline score?
Most of what you can change is the photo: straight on, chin level, mouth closed, hair and beard clear of the jaw, and light from the front. Beyond that, the score reads the shape of your jaw as it is, so the same photo always gets the same score.
05Does a strong jawline make you more attractive?
Not on its own. A sharper, wider jaw is one look among many, and the jawline score doesn't go into our attractiveness test, which reads symmetry, facial thirds, fifths and face length to width.
06Is my photo uploaded?
No. The jawline rating runs entirely in your browser and never uploads your photo or the points found on your face.
